Clinical Psychological Assessments for Autism Spectrum Conditions, ADHD, or other Diagnostic Clarification

I provide clinical psychological assessments for adults over the age of 18-years-old, with waitlist times generally no longer than 3 months once accepted. My approach to assessment is therapeutically-focused on identifying strengths and helping an individual understand themselves and make sense of their experiences. The assessment process will require participation in one to four interviews and completion of various questionnaires or psychological tests. Some interviews can be completed online. A support person or caregiver can be involved, completing separate questionnaires and included in some of the interviews to provide additional information. Typically, the assessment starts with completing online consent and intake registration forms, and booking and paying $540.00 for the first in-person appointment. Following this, online questionnaires will be sent out to complete and further appointments may need to be scheduled before preparing a written psychological report.

Prices for clinical psychological assessments vary according to the amount of time and resources that go in to completing the necessary clinical interviewing, administering psychological tests, and writing the psychological report. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to pricing for psychological assessments, variable costs help to individualise the assessment process, maximise savings, and reduce duplication, particularly if previous assessment details have been provided. This offers some individuals considerable savings, while others may still need to pay an industry-standard price to obtain a comprehensive clinical psychological assessment. All clinical assessments will need to be pre-paid when booked. Following completion of clinical assessments, psychological reports will need to be paid for in advance before they are written, and will generally take 2 to 3 weeks to complete.

Clinical Psychological Assessment for Autism

The National Guideline for the assessment and diagnosis of autism in Australia recommends that an Assessment of Functioning and a Medical Evaluation both contribute to a Comprehensive Needs Assessment, and that the information obtained from these assessments indicate the need for and contribute to a Diagnostic Evaluation. An Assessment of Functioning will explore an individual’s Adaptive Behaviours. A Medical Evaluation may require a follow-up visit to a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist. Diagnostic Evaluation may involve administration of the ADOS-2 or MIGDAS-2. One or two further follow up clinical interviews may be required. A standard, long, or comprehensive psychological report can be provided.

Therefore, an in-person comprehensive clinical psychological assessment for Autism will likely cost anywhere between $1460.00 (which includes two 91-120 minute Clinical Interviews for an Assessment of Functioning and Diagnostic Evaluation, plus a Standard Psychological Report) to $2200.00 (which includes three 90-120 minute Clinical Interviews for Diagnostic Evaluation, plus a Comprehensive Psychological Report).

Clinical Psychological Assessment for ADHD

The Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Guideline For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) recommends that a 2 to 3 hour clinical diagnostic interview for ADHD be arranged over several sessions. It also recommends gathering information from observers close to the individual, along with sometimes considering the need for a medical evaluation. The first and second clinical interview will include a Diagnostic Evaluation attended by the individual, with preferably someone who knew them as a young child before the age of 12-years-old included in the second interview. A follow-up interview may or may not be required. A series of online questionnaires and psychological tests can be completed, and school reports can also provide helpful information.

Therefore, an in-person comprehensive clinical psychological assessment for ADHD will likely cost anywhere between $950.00 (which includes two 45-60 minute Clinical Assessments for Diagnostic Evaluation, plus a Standard Psychological Report) to $1380.00 (which includes three 45-60 minute Clinical Assessments for Diagnostic Evaluation, plus a Comprehensive Psychological Report).

Clinical Psychological Assessment for Diagnostic Clarification

A clinical psychological assessment for diagnostic clarification involves a comprehensive evaluation to gather information about a person’s psychological functioning, behaviours, and experiences, ultimately helping to clarify a diagnosis and guide treatment planning. The purposes of diagnostic clarification may help to understand psychological functioning, identify potential conditions, clarify underlying causes, establish a person’s baseline, and develop an effective and individualised treatment plan. In-depth clinical interviews can be arranged over 2 to 3 sessions to gather information about a person’s history, symptoms, and experiences. Standardised test may be used to measure a person’s cognitive abilities, personality traits, and emotional functioning. Relevant medical, educational, or employment records may be reviewed. With consent, collateral information can be gathered from family members, friends, or other relevant individuals.

Therefore, an in-person comprehensive clinical psychological assessment for diagnostic clarification can likely cost anywhere between $1190.00 (which includes one 90-120 minute Clinical Interview, one 45-60 minute Clinical Interview, plus a Standard Psychological Report) to $2200.00 (which includes three 90-120 minute Clinical Interviews, plus a Comprehensive Psychological Report).
